100 Year Anniversary Celebration

Слава Ісусу Христу!     Glory be to God!

St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church will be celebrating its 100th anniversary on May 7, 2017.  Our Bishop, The Most Reverend Stephen Chmilar, D.D. has confirmed his attendance and will be our principle celebrant.  Right Reverend Monsignor Anton Szymychalski, various other priests, dignitaries, parishioners and friends are cordially invited to attend our celebratory Mass followed by a dinner banquet.

A condensed summary of our Church is included for your information.  Our rich history began with the settlement of Ukrainians who came to Sault Ste. Marie at the turn of the century to work at the Steel Mill in Bay View.  This hardworking and faithful group built the original church in 1917 and shared it with the Roman Catholic community for twenty-four years until the first permanent priest, Father Chorny, arrived in 1942.  By 1958, the parish had grown to such an extent that it was necessary to make some major renovations to the church and hall.  The years that followed saw many families moving away from this industrial area.  Furthermore, the church and hall buildings were again in need of extensive repairs and expansion.  A decision was made to relocate the community to a more central location.  Construction of a new church began in 1987, under the leadership of Monsignor Anton Szymychalski.  Our new temple was consecrated by +Bishop Isidore Borecky on September 3, 1989.

A formal invitation (including additional information) is attached to this letter.

We would be most appreciative if you would honour us with your attendance.

Yours in Christ,

Father Jaroslaw Lazoryk, and

Centennial Committee
